New Senior Team Management in Place
Following the departure of last years manager Jimmy
Gacquin, who has been appointed Trainer to the Roscommon Under 21 team,
The club is delighted to welcome Denis Connerton as our new Senior Team
manager. We would like to thank Jimmy for his wholehearted and valuable
contribution to the club throughout his tenure, and we wish him every
success in his new appointment.
Denis of course is a most experienced manager who
has previously been in charge of several senior teams in the county, and
who has won a Senior Championship whilst in charge of Dromard. He also
managed and played for the Longford County Senior Team and won a Senior
Championship medal with Rathcline in his younger days.
Accordingly he brings a wealth of experience with
him to his new role. Denis will be supported by his newly appointed
selectors Benny O’Brien and Derek Ryan and we wish all three every
success for the coming year.
Training commenced in January under the new
management and we are happy to report that the attendances have been
excellent and participation enthusiastic.
The loss of Michael Brady for the coming season is
a major drawback. Michael is working abroad now and we wish him well in
his new posting. Hopefully we will see him back in action at some stage.
On the positive side however we can confirm that a revitalised Dominic
Glennon and a hungry Adrian Murphy are back with the squad for 2010.
This year we have great hopes of success at senior
level however this cannot be achieved without the commitment and resolve
of the players themselves. It is time we realised that, regardless of
who the manager, it is players who must win matches at the end of the
day.
We require leadership on the pitch to make us
competitive when it really matters, and hopefully this year some players
will step forward to provide this vital ingredient for success.
