Longford Slashers Senior Club 2009 AGM The 2009 AGM was held in the clubhouse on Saturday night last. A large attendance listened as club secretary, Pat Chapman, gave a detailed report on the activities of 2008 and thanked all those who had contributed to running the club. He highlighted the input of Noel Caslin, outgoing treasurer, who retires from that role. He said that Noel was one of the founder members of the club in 1954 and has given great service to the club since then. Our Chairman thanked all those who participated in the running of the club in 2009. He stated we had a relatively successful year but that it was a disappointment that we had not won the Connolly Cup. He thanked outgoing team manager, John Murphy, for the excellent job he had done in the previous three years. He welcomed the new manager, Jimmy Gacquin and his selectors Gerry Clarke and James Brady. The treasurer, Noel Caslin, in his final report in this role gave a detailed review of the past year from a financial prospective. He cautioned that we were entered a time where it may be more difficult to raise finance and that we should be prudent in our spending. There were no contests from committee positions with Tom Mulligan taking over as Club Treasurer for the retiring Noel Caslin and Bernard Duffy coming in as assistant treasurer with Liam Eivers. A motion to redefine the members of the executive was carried. A motion change the manner by which the club picked its team managers was defeated. All other motions were referred to the next club meeting so that clarification could be obtained. The Chairman then thanked all for attending and wished them and the club well for 2009.

17/12/2008 Jimmy Gacquin was announced as the new Longford Slashers Senior team manager.
He replaces John Murphy who completed a three year spell. John brought the team to two county finals in this period and the team improved greatly during his tenure. The club would like to thank John for his outstanding dedication and the great job he has done.
17/11/2008 Minor Club AGM
The minor club agm is planned for Saturday 6 Dec 8pm. Everyone is welcome.
17/11/2008 Under 21 Championship Quarter Final Slashers 0-8 Dromard 1-14 We lost out to a very strong Dromard team in the quarter final of the under 21 championship at Emmet Park, Killoe last Saturday. We were well in the game in the first half and it was not until the last 15 minutes that Dromard put the game beyond us.
13/11/2008 Search on for new Club Senior Manager Our current senior team manager, John Murphy, has completed his term. The search is now on for a replacement. A committee is in place to find the right person for the job.
The club would like to thank John for the great job he has done. The team was unfortunate not to capture a county title during this period. He will be a hard act to follow.
Latest Hurling News 10 Nov 2008 The minor hurling championship final takes place this Sunday at Devine Park, Edgeworthstown, at 1pm where our lads take on Wolfe Tones. After a terrific win at this grade last year back-to-back titles would be a fantastic boost for the club. 20 October 2008 Our Under-10's play the final round of the Westmeath ground hurling league this Saturday October 25th. Players will be told of times & travel arrangements at training on Wednesday which is at 5pm in Slashers. Newcomers welcome. 17 October 2008 Our Under 12's played their last match of what has been another successful season with the Westmeath league division 2 final in Clonkill against Crookedwood on Saturday. Despite missing 2 first-choice players we were 2-0 to 0-2 up at half-time after playing against the breeze. Unfortunately momentum swung in the opposition's favour in the second half & while our boys battled bravely to the end we lost 3-5 to 2-1. We would like to thank all the players, parents & mentors involved for their efforts & commitment this past season & we're already looking forward to next year's endeavours. We will be having a coaching day Saturday November 1st with top coach Paudie Butler & we hope to have a medal presentation afterwards. Further details to follow. Training continues for Under 10's Wednesdays at 5pm & we have another round of the Westmeath U-10 ground hurling competition on Saturday week.

Longford Slashers is a GAA club located in Longford town. The club was formed in 1954 when Longford Wanderers and Shroid Slashers amalgamated.
Our ground, Michael Fay Park, is located on the outskirts of Longford town in an area called Farneyhoogan. In 1980 we moved to this location and since then our facilities are second to none. We currently have three playing fields, two of which have floodlights. Our clubhouse contains a bar, function room, meeting rooms, squash courts and several dressing rooms.
We also host Backstage Theatre and centre for the arts on our site. This is a purpose built theatre and provides high quality entertainment for the midlands.
On the playing fields to date Slashers have won 13 senior championship titles but are currently going through a barren spell the last title was won in 1994. Our current team manager, John Murphy, has built on the work of previous manager, Dessie Barry, to make the team competitive again. In the last two years we went close to regaining the title and we hope to continue the progress and win the title in the near future.
we have a thriving Minor Club which caters for all age groups, schools and organises very successful camps.
Our Hurling Club was formed around 1980 and the hard work of a few dedicated people ensure this great game is kept alive in the club.
