Under 14 Blitz
Slashers minor club hosted a blitz for U/14 on Sat 29
Mar.
The guest teams were from Cavan Gael, Carrigallen and St Barrys. The
format allowed each team to play each other in a 15 a side match with 15
minutes each half and two plays only.
The blitz was hotly contested with Slashers having a full squad of 20 on
the day.
The conditions were wet and heavy under foot but it
didn't prevent some classy football on display.
Slashers beat St Barrys in the 1st game and met a formidable Cavan in
the 2nd where Slashers were easily overcome despite great battling by
Eliot Brady, Conor Creighton Patrick Farrell, Sean Clarke and Colm
Farrell. Cavan were a physical strong team who worked the ball out of
defence well.
Adrian Duffy gave an exhibition with Cillian Bartley at half back but
Cavan came out easy winners.
Carrigallen met Slashers who were intent on reaching the final. Slashers
fought for every ball and showed great heart to narrowly win by 2 pts.
Shane Rodgers, Conor Raleigh and Rory Clarke worked well in the forwards
where Andrew Dalton was on target hitting the net at a crucial time.
Brian Walsh and Nathan Conroy won the battle at Lár na páirce to ensure
victory and see Slashers into the final with Cavan Gaels.
The final was on the lower firmer pitch and Slashers were up for the
game getting the 1st score. Ryan Mangan, Niall Kelly, Cillian Farrell
,Kevin Quinn and Conor Lawler worked well in the better conditions. The
game was all square at half time and Slashers looked the better team.
Unfortunately our great full back James Campbell injured his knee into
the 2nd half and this demanded a few switches that shook the team. Cavan
ran out 2 pt winners and took the medals to Ulster. Brian Rooney was man
of the tournament which bodes well for Féile next week.
Thanks to all the Slashers mentors that lent a hand, prepared the
pitches sent the mails and made the calls, delivered the sambos and
refresments, reffed the matches , cleaned the jerseys and of course
thanks to our ever loyal supporters
